This is very different than the usual models I make, it was a challenge but in a fun way! Made this for the art test in my application to Wargaming's 3D art course. In the brief there was exact sizes given and also a max tri count of 2350. The tri count really pushed me to make conscious decisions on where to use the polycount, I ended up with the model being 2265 tris! Update: I got accepted into the course! :)
It was very interesting for me to make a model that is mechanical and exact like this, I had to gain an understanding about how the parts fit together to model and texture it and I ended up looking at some really old manual about this mortar to get a feel for what each piece done.
Made in 3ds Max, ZBrush, Substance Painter and rendered in Marmoset Toolbag 4. I also made the writing decals in Procreate on iPad because the writing seemed to be manually put onto the real weapon so I wanted the text to be a bit more organic.
I've some non weapon models soon (just couldn't pass up the opportunity of applying to this course) and an environment in the works!
